How to plan your return airport pickup time

Return pickups need enough time for traffic, check-in, baggage, security, and airport walking distances.

The return transfer is easy to underestimate because the holiday rhythm has already taken over. A sensible pickup time protects your flight, especially when traffic or airport queues are unpredictable.

Start with the airline check-in advice

For international flights, many airlines suggest arriving around three hours before departure. Domestic and short-haul flights may need less time, but busy holiday airports can still move slowly.

Add realistic road time

Ask your accommodation or transfer provider about usual traffic at your pickup time. Market days, school runs, cruise arrivals, and weekend resort changeovers can all affect the journey.

Leave room for luggage and walking

Large airports can add meaningful time between the terminal entrance, bag drop, security, and the gate. Families and groups should allow extra minutes to stay together.
  • Confirm the pickup date carefully for overnight flights.
  • Check local traffic patterns for your route.
  • Build in time for bag drop and security.
  • Keep the driver contact number available.
